The increasing demand for renewable energy, particularly renewable heat, is driving the development of geothermal resources across the World. In Europe alone, domestic space heating represents approximately 35% of the entire annual energy consumption. According to the International Energy Agency, growth in the use of geothermal heat for direct heating could increase sixfold over the next 30 years in all parts of the World.
Roadmap vision of direct use of geothermal heat by region (EJ/year) – Source IEA, 2011
In order to meet the growth in demand, we are working with a number of partners to provide low cost, low risk deep geothermal heat solutions. The benefits of these systems are:
• Clean, low carbon heat
• No waste produced and no road / rail fuel transport requirements after installation
• Minimal visual and environmental impact compared to other forms of heat generation
• Energy security from domestic power generation
• Small footprint of surface plant
• Guaranteed future fuel costs
